[Harp-L] Re: Blow bends while tongue blocking
Re: Blow bends while tongue blocking
I'm working on the 8, 9, and 10 blow bends while tongue blocking following
a suggesting given here where the mouth position used to draw bend the 6 on
a C harp is also used to blow bend low F as they are the same reed.
As I don't yet have a low F, I'm using 6 draw on my D harp and the 8 blow
in my G harp..
My teacher, who advocates the lip-blocking embouchure, suggested that
rather than using the tip of my tongue to deflect the air stream when draw
bending the 6 holes that would get better control if I were to tuck the tip
under my lower teeth and raise the middle of my tongue to get the
deflection. This does work.
Then, following this idea, I can get a good tongue blocked draw bend on the
6 hole on my D harp and then also a good blow bend on the 8 hole on my G harp.
I need more practice to get good control of the blow bend but I can report
that the idea works.
